Just as Imam Hussein is widely regarded as the icon of resistance against autocracy and injustice in medieval history, the Palestinians under occupation are the symbol of resistance against oppression in modern history. Less than two years ago, the Egyptians stormed the Israeli embassy in Cairo expressing their disapproval in strongest terms against Israeli policies. Despite the Western media's frantic efforts to block the facts, there are enough porous boundaries through which the truth is seeping in. Various segments of the Western population are turning increasingly against the Israeli occupation while the residents of Egypt next door to Palestine have slipped and gotten trapped in fierce rightism. Can a story be more pathetic than that? Between the Egyptian government and the media, it's the media that takes the brunt of the blame for this tragic indoctrination of minds and subsequently goading the government to continue with its unprincipled policies.
