An attempted coup d'tat (aka "operation liberty") fervently backed by US warhawks to topple Venezuela's legitimate leader has fallen flat on its face. Thursday morning as President Nicholas Maduro marched with the military thanking them for their support for unity and peace, America's thundering defeat flashed before the eyes of the world. All options exhausted to destabilize Venezuela, the White House stands at a crossroads. The ultimate can by no means be ruled out - direct military intervention. A cornered rat is quick to take desperate steps.
