Sardasht Osman: "the poem that kills"

A pricey one that cost him his life.
May 2013 - third anniversary
Egyptian satirist, Besam Yusuf, was arrested in March this year (later freed on bail) over charges of insulting the Egyptian President.   Prior to that, Qatari poet, Mohammad Rashid al-Ajami, was sentenced for life in prison in February 2013 (sentence later reduced to 15 years) on charges of inciting to overthrow the Qatari Government.  These seem harsh punishments for free speech, similar to the ones for criticizing Holocaust or Zionism in the West.  But they appear humane compared to the fate of 22-year-old Sardasht Osman, a poet, journalist and student of English literature at the University of Mosul, Iraqi Kurdistan.

Free speech in Iraqi Kurdistan?    Don't even think of it.

Sardasht Osman was an outspoken critic of the massive corruption by Massoud Barazani (President of Iraqi Kurdistan) and his government.  He received several death threats.  In May 2010, a group of armed men entered the University campus, kidnapped Sardasht in broad daylight, beat him, dragged him into a van and drove off.  He was found dead a couple of days later.  His body was dumped on the roadside with two bullets in his head.  Some reports say he was shot twice in the mouth, a symbol of revenge for speaking up.  No one doubts the young man paid the price for not giving up on free speech.

He had contributed many articles and poems exposing the endless corruption within the government of his country.  His works and the style of his writing were exceedingly popular.  One of his latest poems, a satirical piece he wrote for the Kurdistan Post, was most likely the direct cause of his murder.  Titled "I love Massoud Barazani's daughter"  (known as "the poem that kills"), Osman portrays himself as Barazani's "son-in-law" and how that would change his life from a commoner struggling to survive to a man immersed in luxuries.
The Government of Iraqi Kurdistan is supported staunchly by Western leaders.  That explains why an incident as tragic as this never got any international coverage in the Western media, not even in the circle of Western journalists.

The poem quoted below is all-inclusive, and amusing too.  It gives a vivid picture of the depth of corruption festering within the government of Iraqi Kurdistan as in many Arab puppet states.   The original is in Kurdish.  This is the English translation.  That may have disrupted some of its rhythm and flow.  However, it's a poem and not a prose.
By Sardasht Osman   (taken from Niqash.org .. link below)
I love Massoud Barazani's daughter.  I want Massoud Barazani be my father-in-law.  He is the man who appears in public occasionally, telling the people he is their president.
I want Nechirvan Barazani (Massoud Barazani's nephew and former head of the KRG) to be my brother-in-law.
Once I become Barazani's son-in-law, I will take his daughter to Paris and spend one month on honeymoon with her.  We will visit our uncle's house in the USA too.
I will be able to move house.  I will live in Sari Rash resort (Barazani's palace complex) and will be guarded all night long by US police trained dogs and Israeli guards.
I will be able to look after my father.  He served as a Peshmerga during the September Revolution led by Mulla Mustafa Barazani (Massoud's father).  He left the KDP afterwards, so they don't pay him his veterans' pension.  I will appoint my father Peshmerga Minister
I will be able to sort things out for my brother too.  He completed college but now he is unemployed and is seeking political asylum outside of Iraq.  He can take charge of my personal guards.  As for my sister, who is too scared to leave the house alone to visit the marketplace, she will be behind the wheels of the fanciest cars.  She will drive cars similar to those currently driven by the Barazani tribe.
I will be able to take care of my mother who suffers from heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.  We cannot afford to send her outside of Iraq for treatment.  I will bring Italian medical specialists to take care of her without having to move.
For my uncles, hospitality houses will be opened and my cousins will become university deans, army brigades' commanders and heads of associations and unions.
All my friends said, "Saro, don't do this.  The Mulla's family can end your life any time they want to."  I told them I did not commit blasphemy and I swear to the dagger of (Massoud's late brother) Mustafa Idris Barazani that my father spent three nights with him on the same mountain (during the fight against Saddam) and so why not say those things?  The poor of this region are being let down by Massoud Barazani who continues to claim he is our president.  How many times has he visited one of the poor neighbourhoods of Erbil or Sulaymaniyah in the last 18 years?
My problem with Barazani is that he is totally driven by tribal allegiances.  Nothing matters to him apart from looking after his family.  With one click on the internet, I can find the names of the wives of all presidents of all countries on earth.  The name of my future mother-in-law remains a mystery, however.
When I propose, who should I take with me?  Maybe some old mullas or peshmirga veterans?  I told myself I should just trust God and go for it.  But a friend of mine, another journalist, had a better idea.
"Search for the Kurds who collaborated with Saddam Hussein's regime.  Search for the traitors who were involved in the Anfal massacres and take them with you.  Massoud Barazani adores such people."
Another friend said Nechirvan Barazai was the man to get close to.
"Go whisper in his ear when he's at a press conference.  Tell him there is a personal issue you want to discuss with him,"  he said.  "If not, then Dashni (a popular Kurdish singer).  She can arrange everything.  She spends a lot of time with the Barazani family."
Sardasht Osman wasn't the only journalist in Iraqi Kurdistan to have met such a fate.  The practice of brutally targeting journalists who dare  to speak has happened several times in that country and reportedly getting worse.  Sardasht was a very brave young man.  He knew that some day he would be killed.  He was advised by many to leave Iraqi Kurdistan, but he refused.  He said he was ready to face death but wouldn't give up on exposing the truth.  You can also read another web-piece written by him at Niqash.org titled "My death knell rings" in which he has almost predicted his death.

Tariq Ali on Syria - what a nasty and muddle headed critter he is

We know the approach of rightists.  But I wonder why some leftists such as Tariq Ali, Ilan Pappe, Fredric Jameson and Norman Finkelstein  find it so difficult to register what's actually happening within Syria.   They are all singing the same tune - "free Syria."

TARIQ ALI, a known libertarian and editor of New Left Review, shocks me in particular.  The man is a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause, hater of imperialism, an open critic of Zionism, recognizes the uselessness of the Arab League, against all forms of radicalism, anti-war, admirer of the late Hugo Chavez - but supporter the Syrian opposition, believe it or not.

Ali admits Western intervention in Syria would be catastrophic.    Yet he claims  "Assad clan must relinquish their stronghold" because "the overwhelming majority of people in Syria want the Assad family out."   He further adds "Syria needs a non-sectarian national government to prepare a new constitution"    God Almighty!  This person has been an free thinker for the past 45 years.  From where does he gather such outlandish ideas?   Doesn't he know that Assad's replacement will not be "non sectarian" but strictly sectarian Salafists?  Doesn't he know that there was no sectarianism within Syria until the US sponsored terrorists brought it in?  Doesn't he know the involvement of foreigners, the presence of mercenaries and the stock they belong to?   Doesn't he know of Israel being the sole beneficiary of this carefully planned scheme?  Even if there is no direct Western intervention, are professional terrorists cut out to "prepare a national government?"  Will Assad's departure be enough for them to put down their weapons and not unleash a fresh wave of animosity against the FSA?   Hasn't Libya taught enough lessons of post-war violence already?

He has failed miserably in making the right connections to get the true picture.  How would a "celebrated intellect" not be able to perceive the contradiction between denouncing Western intervention but complacency over the invasion by Western sponsors?   T. Ali  is either unaware or naively dismissive of the recent acknowledgement of the CIA itself (posted on Al-Manar news outlet and several others) stating that if Bashar Al-Assad survives until 2014 and runs for an election, he is likely to win 75% of Syrian votes 'as there is no other worth mentioning candidate that can stand against him for presidency.'

Some were wondering if his thoughts have lately changed.  Nah, not at all.  But his thoughts have been exposed as the Syrian & Libyan conflicts are/were different from the rest. These two countries have been targets of subversion. But libertarians like T. Ali  do not analyze every situation according to its own different context.  They have a standardized judgment for all. Whenever agitation erupts among the public, it can be either homegrown or instigated/perpetrated from outside.  Of course it needs to be studied accordingly. But Ali interprets every such chaos as the peoples' call for their government to quit without focusing on the role played by external forces and various other aspects that need to be scrutinized. Hence he will condemn the government of Syria the same way as he would denounce the government of Bahrain.   A complete madman!

Watch Tariq Ali's 11-minute interview at the following link on RT .. the nonsense galore he's talking!  In his own words "Assad must be pushed out" and is displeased with Hezbollah and Iran for helping Syria.    He acknowledges Muslim Brotherhood's plan to take over the region and work with the US, but doesn't seem to find that too undemocratic.   His very dismissive stance over the presence/involvement of AQ is mind blowing.  This is the first time I've heard someone trusting AQ for coming into the fold of progress once they acquire sovereignty, which implies snatching Syria from its rightful people.  Not a word about the huge benefits awaiting Israel, in case the Syrian Government is toppled.  I won't be surprised if this man needs money and has been lured by MI6 or one of its counterparts.  Or simply, senility has gotten the better of this geezer.

A man with a rotting mind

The Hadith blunders on Battle of Camel (Jamal)

By Brother AR - contributor at Muslim Villa

We know from history that there had been battles between Muslims, that is, Ali (RA) and Aisha (RA), Ali (RA) and Muawiya(RA).  So according to the following narrations all of them are people of Hellfire.

Bukhari:: Book 1 :: Volume 2 :: Hadith 30.  Narrated Al-Ahnaf bin Qais:
While I was going to help this man (Ali Ibn Abi Talib), Abu Bakra met me and asked, "Where are you going?" I replied, "I am going to help that person."  He said, "Go back for I have heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'When two Muslims fight (meet) each other with their swords, both the murderer as well as the murdered will go to the Hell-fire.' I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! It is all right for the murderer but what about the murdered one?' Allah's Apostle replied, "He surely had the intention to kill his companion."

Vol.:9, Book: 88 Number: 204.  Narrated Al-Hasan:
Al-Ahnaf said I went out carrying my arms during the nights of the affliction (i.e. the war between `Ali and `Aisha) and Abu Bakra met me and asked, “Where are you going?” I replied, “I intend to help the cousin of Allah’s Apostle (i.e. `Ali).” Abu Bakra said, “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘If two Muslims take out their swords to fight each other, then both of them will be from amongst the people of the Hell- Fire.’ It was said to the Prophet, ‘It is alright for the killer but what about the killed one?’ He replied, ‘The killed one had the intention to kill his companion.”

The fabricators of Hadith, the so called Imams and their associates have suggested to the simple and ignorant people that there are many problems of life where the Holy Qur'aan gives no guidance or is silent or it does not clearly mention, and only Hadith describes such problems and gives guidance.

The fabricators of Hadith have an agenda based on disregarding the Qur'aan, the Prophet and animosity towards his companions.

The matter to ponder is when two Muslims or group of Muslims take up their weapons against each other, does the Qur'aan give any guidance in this or not?  If yes, then whether it clearly describes or is ambiguous so that people have to refer to  Qum, Bukhara, Tirmiz,Nishapur or Deoband for its clarification?

Those Hadith lovers should spare some time to read the Qur'aan:

Verse 49/9.   Pickthall:
"And if two parties of believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them. And if one party of them doeth wrong to the other, fight ye that which doeth wrong till it return unto the ordinance of Allah; then, if it return, make peace between them justly, and act equitably. Lo! Allah loveth the equitable."
Verse 49/10.  Pickthal:
"The believers are naught else than brothers. Therefore make peace between your brethren and observe your duty to Allah that haply ye may obtain mercy."

When this was shown to a Hadith lover, his simple answer was “it is a weak narration.”   Then why do you call Bukhari "SAHIH?"  Why don’t you throw it out?   He was simply silent and he blushed.

May Allah guide us all through the Qur'aan

By Sister Zainab:

We can observe the searingly outrageous characteristics of the above Ahadith.

First of all, Abu Bakr Siddiq was the closest companion of the Prophet (sw).  He wouldn't even think of expressing such rash ideas that clearly violate the Noble Quran.  Still worse, to falsely dump the forgery by using the name of the Prophet (sw).  These two Hadiths brazenly slander the Prophet (sw) as well as Abu Bakr.

Secondly, the narration by Al-Ahnaf bin Qais also insinuates a belittling tone towards Ali bin Abu Talib by referring to him as "this man."

Thirdly and most importantly, here is the mother of all blunders in both the above Hadiths.  The historical data has been completely bungled!  Obviously, either the narrator or the compiler, whoever is responsible for the contents of the above two narrations, were totally ignorant of history and therefore had no idea of the dates of historical events.   The Battle of Camel was fought much after the demise of Abu Bakr.  Abu Bakr passed away on 634 AD, two years after the Prophet (sw).  The Battle of Camel was fought on  656 AD in Basra - 22 years later!    How on earth could the narrator, Al-Ahnaf bin Qais, meet Abu Bakr on the day or on the night of the Battle of Camel when Abu Bakr had died 22 years earlier ??   Silence of the people over such an eye-catching discrepancy also exposes the ignorance of the masses along with their cowardice of being afraid to ask questions.  Any one with basic knowledge of Islamic history should know that the Battle of Camel or Jamal was fought during the Caliphate of Ali.  And Abu Bakr passed away more than 2 decades earlier.  How could he possibly be present during the time of this Battle?

Detention of minor Palestinian children is increasing at an alarming rate responded by a deafening silence from all human rights' groups.

- The Israeli prison cells for young Palestinian children lack the basic essential needs of a prison.- Many of these children are used as human shields while in Israeli custody.
- Palestinian children in Israeli prisons are subjected to humiliating verbal abuses, sleep deprivation and beatings.

-  The insults and verbal abuse by soldiers start from the time these children are
transported in the jeep.  The abuse continues through interrogation.

- Palestinian children in Israeli prisons are forced to make confessions under torture and blackmail.

- Palestinian children are denied education in Israeli prisons which isn't only against international law but also against Israeli law.

- Palestinian children are made to go through various kinds of psychological torture.  "For example, 14-year-old Ala tells how he was handcuffed and blindfolded during his arrest. “They [Israeli soldiers] put me in the jeep and transferred me to Etzion interrogation center. The interrogator told me to say goodbye to my friend Muhannad, because he was going to throw me from the third floor. No one was there to protect me. No one was with me. I was alone.” (Info via Electronic Intifada).

Since year 2000, detention of Palestinian minors by Israeli officials has spiked tremendously.  Apart from 1,500 Palestinian minors being shot dead by IDF forces, more than 9,500 minors have been taken into custody since September of 2000.   In brazen defiance to international human rights law, an average of 700 minors are arrested every year, at worst only for throwing stones, the majority not even that.  They are simply picked up for being outside their homes.

The purpose of this gross violation is obviously to crush the will and spirit of resistance of the future generations. But the far-reaching effect has been the opposite.

The 'Burmese Bin Laden'

classes for Buddhist children to radicalize them and deepen Buddhist religious nationalism.   Yet this man insists that his movement is "peaceful."  The West has never spoken about the mayhem he has openly been indulging in.  The murderers of "969" are also known as  "Aung San Suu Kyi’s Saffron Monks."

As Land Destroyer puts it, their idea of deporting all Muslims is:

".. the equivalent of Ku Klux Klan racists demanding that America’s black population be shipped back to Africa.  The US State Department’s “pro-democratic” protesters in Myanmar have been revealed as habitual, violent bigots with genocidal tendencies."

A Muslim shopkeeper in Rangoon, said this weekend that his sales have fallen by two-thirds since a video of Wirathu's preaching began to circulate.   He said  on condition of anonymity fearing retribution that “969 is a very dangerous movement, they want to hurt Muslim businesses. When Muslim business goes down, the Burmese Buddhists get richer.”   This is one of the goals of this dangerous movement.  Also, by abolishing all Muslim businesses, the intention is to hurt China's trade with the Burmese Muslim community, causing economic loss to China.   As in Syria, in Burma too, the United States has a secret agenda of eradicating the Muslim minority and crushing Chinese trade with Burma, for which the US is getting the full support of Aung San Su Kyi.   Although statistically only 4% of Burma is Muslim, yet the Burmese Bin Laden thinks that the Muslim population is spreading too fast and is a threat to the Buddhists.

Burma genocide - Buddhist extremism reaches Rangoon

The attacks have now begun in Burma's largest city, Rangoon (or Yangon).  Just the other day people around the world were talking of Rangoon as being highly cosmopolitan and would never allow ethnic cleansing within its boundaries.  The discerning ones told them they were wrong, and that's been proven today.  Mosques and Muslim businesses came under heavy attack in Rangoon on April 29, 2013.

Just think of it.  Well over 100,00 Muslims killed in Burma since June 2012, and the deadly havoc continues by Buddhist mobsters with the approval of their muted commanders-in-chief, Thein Sein and Aun Kan Su Kyi.

I'm posting the recent link from Yahoo on the violence in Rangoon.  What astonished me most was the discussion among the readers of that link .  I am quoting a few of their comments below.   It exposes their glaring contradiction, claiming to uphold "peace" yet gloating in the act of spilling blood in accordance with the ideology they embrace which they consider "peaceful."

"They" don't seem to like it when it's done to them ........"

"Think the muslims better can the sh#t. They think they own everywhere. Guess what. They don't."

"All Muslims do is start trouble everywhere they live."

"It's about time someone stood up to Islam"

"Radical Monks? Hell they are just defending themselves."

"The peaceful Buddhist know an infestation of roaches in their house when they see it."

The mind boggling after effects of propaganda are obvious.  Brainwashing is a dangerous 'art' and irreversible when accomplished.  Once it settles down within the mind, it never leaves.  This talk back by members of the supposedly 'developed world' is sprawled with comments that brazenly support MURDER, MAYHEM, AND CHAOS against a defenseless minority.  That's the magic of media propaganda, blurring the human vision and embedding bigotry and callousness within the human mind in the name of "peace."  Indoctrinated with this mythical ethos of "Buddhist non-violence" the masses are lost in their frenzy of glamorizing this fantasy.  They can only read the term "peace" but are unable to define it nor understand it.  Almost all comments in the above link are by Western readers who either fantasize Buddhism or are Buddhist converts.

A few of those comments that contain a semblance of fairness by recognizing the Burmese majority as perpetrators of violence have been bombarded with 'thumbs down' and their opinions hidden by Yahoo for "low rating."

Impossible to suppress  the truth any longer, extensive incidents of violence and murder in Burma are now being reported occasionally and briefly by the Western mainstream media.   But it often needs to be read with discernment.  The choice of words can be misleading.  Expressions like "Sectarian clashes pitting Muslims against majority Buddhists,"  "Sectarian clashes between Buddhists and Muslims,"  "Rioting broke out that led led to the deaths of 44 people, with 13,000 displaced,"  are deceptive phrases giving the impression to unthinking readers (which are many) that it's a fight where both sides are responding to the attacks from each other.   Not true.  THIS IS A ONE-SIDED ACT OF VIOLENCE AND MURDER WHERE ONLY THE BUDDHISTS ARE KILLING THE MUSLIMS.  ONLY THE BUDDHISTS ARE INCITING VIOLENCE AND DEATH AGAINST THE MUSLIM MINORITY THAT COMPRISES ONLY 5% OF THE TOTAL POPULATION OF BURMA.   Information such as "the deaths of 44 people with 13,000 displaced" must be further clarified that those 44 and 13,000 people were/are Muslims, lest the sheepl presume those figures to be a mutual toll.  It's imperative to separate the victims from the culprits.

Less than a month ago when BBC reporter, Jonathan Head, visited Burma to cover the story, he talked to a senior Buddhist monk and asked him why they were carrying out this deadly movement against an unarmed and defenseless segment of the society.   The monk's SHOCKING reply was, "the population of Muslims is growing very fast in Myanmar," implying that if a minority community grows in number faster than expected, then the right way to control their population is by murdering them.   Only their primeval ancestors, Changez Khan and Halaku Khan, with an unconcealed penchant for blood would nurture such a galling mindset!

As the story begins to appear on international headlines, the Burmese government and opposition begin to realize the importance of constructing excuses on how it started, dumping the blame on the minority.  Initially, a bogus story circulated in 2012 that the violence began because of a Muslim man raping a Buddhist woman.  But it was followed by no details as to who that woman was, who raped her, who reported the matter to the police etc. etc.  The story went cold a few days after the ethnic cleansing began, making the motive of that fable very clear and visible.  Being aware that it was too palpably a setup to justify the planned genocide, the Buddhist monks have recently concocted another spurious story by getting seven Muslim men arrested randomly with the absurd allegation that they tried to kill a Buddhist monk in the central Burmese city of Meiktila.  The purpose of this lie is to condone the future killings of Muslims already planned between the Burmese government, opposition and the majority of Buddhist masses.  This fictitious piece of disinformation is a warning that the genocide will not end anytime soon.  Despite the endless bloodbath, gruesome enough to cause guilt within the most insensitive of hearts, the Buddhist intolerance and lust for blood remains firm like a rock.

A Mosque and Islamic school in Northern Rangoon attacked by a Buddhist extremist organization burning many copies of the Glorious Quran and Islamic books with pages strewn all over.   The purpose of Buddhist violence in Burma is to show profound hatred for everything Islamic, while the world watches in silence. How much would the world talk IF this had happened in a Muslim country against a buddhist or any non-Muslim minority ??  Last but not least, the cruel hypocrisy of many so-called humanitarians in Europe and North America has been exposed like never before.

This image (taken from Guardian UK) is of the town of Sittwe (not too far from Rangoon) where a large number of Muslims have recently been butchered and women being used as sex-slaves by Burmese military. The image shows two Muslim men running in panic as they see their homes set on fire by Buddhist mobs. Photos of attacks in Rangoon aren't yet available as the city is supposed to be under curfew and the police isn't allowing any reporters inside. However, Buddhist mobs have in the past carried out killings despite curfew through their collaboration with the law enforcers.
